My last week in Orofino wasn't too overly exciting. We didn't have any of our investigators come to church which sucks because two of them are on date to be baptized. They've been really flaky as far as church attendance but they always love our lessons and what they read. Hopefully they can get some motivation.
Something really funny happened this week though. on Sunday we had ribs for our lunch appointment and steak for our dinner appointment. Our Monday appointment fed us steak, so did our Tuesday. Wednesday we had hamburgers (they ground the patties themselves) Thursday we had steak again. On Friday we had ribs. Saturday we went to our dinner appointment, we sat down and Elder C. and I were relieved not to see steak at the table. Part way through eating, the member said, "Oh! I forgot the steak!" then ran over and got it off the counter. As the dinner conversation went on, they asked us if we liked the steak, after we told them that it was really good, they told us that they had just butchered a cow and have been giving the meat away to ward members. We found out that every single person that we had dinner with during the week had been feeding us meat from the same cow. I doubt that I will ever have that happen again. haha
That's it for Orofino, I head out for Pullman tomorrow morning I guess I look forward to writing all about my new area.
We visited with him on Wednesday . We had decided not to bring up the talk unless he said something about it. Which he did. He told us that for the first day or so, he was furious and had determined that he would never set foot in the LDS church again. But that as the day went on he started to remind himself that he has, in the past, expressed views and opinions that he knows for a fact have been offensive and that hes ran away from this problem before and that it's always just made him miserable. He added that even though it's hard, he knows the truthfulness of the church and he can't deny it or any of his past spiritual experiences. He pretty much just bore his testimony to us and let it all go. He came this Sunday, which was awesome and surprised the bishopric. We are all pretty sure that he's not going anywhere. :) It was a good way to end my time in Orofino
He's a super cool guy with a powerful testimony. He was in a Pentecostal church for 30 years. but the one thing about the LDS church that he could never get over ever since the first time he attended church, was the fact that just sitting in chapel and listening to the speaker, you could have the spirit give you more personal revelation than any kind of conjuring, dancing, speaking in tongues or anything like that could ever do. He's got a pretty neat story as to how he joined the church but it's pretty long andhe'd have to tell it himself. haha
Well, i'm excited to go to my new area.
